1.8. Operational Definition of Terms

Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity in Christian theology, alongside God the Father and God the Son (Jesus). The Holy Spirit is understood as God’s active presence in the world, working to empower believers, guide them in their spiritual journey, and help them live out the teachings of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is also seen as a comforter, counselor, and teacher, offering spiritual gifts and nurturing personal transformation. The Holy Spirit plays a vital role in the life of the Church, convicting people of sin, bringing them to salvation, and empowering them for service.

Jesus: Jesus, also known as Jesus Christ, is the central figure of Christianity, believed by Christians to be the Son of God and the Savior of humanity. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection form the foundation of Christian faith. Jesus is understood as both fully divine and fully human, and His life on earth demonstrated the love, grace, and truth of God. Christians believe that through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross, humanity is offered salvation and reconciliation with God. His resurrection is seen as a victory over sin and death, offering eternal life to those who believe in Him.

Contemporary Society: Contemporary society refers to the modern world as it exists today, including the social, cultural, economic, and technological environment in which people live. It encompasses the values, norms, and behaviors of individuals and communities, shaped by factors such as globalization, digital technology, secularism, and the diversity of beliefs. Contemporary society is marked by rapid change, interconnectedness, and evolving challenges, including issues related to identity, morality, social justice, and religion. Christian: A Christian is someone who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and accepts Him as their Lord and Savior. Christians believe in the Bible as the sacred scripture and strive to live according to its teachings. A Christian can be a member of various Christian denominations, such as Catholicism, Protestantism, or Eastern Orthodoxy, but all share a common faith in Jesus Christ and His role in salvation. Christianity is not just a set of beliefs, but a way of life that calls individuals to love others, seek justice, and spread the message of God’s love.
