INTRODUCTION

• Background to the Study

The shift from traditional mission paradigms to more context-sensitive models has been especially pronounced in urban settings, where complex social dynamics and cultural pluralism demand innovative approaches. Bosch (2011) notes that urban missions must grapple with secularism, globalization, and multiculturalism, prompting churches to move beyond mere proclamation to holistic engagement that includes justice, advocacy, and community development.

Urban mission work is characterized by its engagement with marginalized populations often neglected by mainstream society. Gornik (2011) emphasizes that urban missionaries must integrate into the life of the city, building long-term relationships and becoming agents of reconciliation and transformation. In these contexts, Christian missions are increasingly adopting incarnational models, in which missionaries live among the people they serve, fostering authenticity and trust. These communities often face challenges such as poverty, crime, and overcrowding but also offer opportunities for innovation, social mobility, and inter-cultural engagement.
