Influence Of Job Satisfaction On Workers Perceived Productivity

3.1 Preambles

The major objective of this chapter is to unravel the methods of data collection and techniques used in their analysis. The method of enquiry employee for this study will also be explained. This chapter begins with the basic explanation of the research design used in the work being understudied. The description will further entail the population, sample size, methods of study and procedure for data analysis.

3.2       Research Design

The research design used for this study is the survey design. The reason why this design was adopted was because the researcher would make use of the primary data obtained through the questionnaire.

3.3       Population of the Study

The population of this study is the entire employees of Nigeria Brewery Plc Apapa, Lagos, Lagos, made up of 134 employees, from different departments and gender. The workers are broken down into below clerical 9, casual 45, Supervisor 5, officer 65, Assistance 20, manager 4.

3.4       Sampling, Procedure and Sample size

The sampling procedure used for this research work is the simple random sampling. The basis for the selection of the sample is hinged on the fact that the whole population cannot be understudied, and that it will contain a fair representation of the population. The sample size consists of one hundred (100) employees of Nigeria Brewery Plc, Apapa, Lagos, from different departments.

3.5       Research Instrument and Data Collection Instrument

The use of questionnaire formed the major instrument used in the data collection. The questionnaires were structured to allow respondents select the responses they considered most appropriate. The question is divided into two sections. Section A contains the Bio data of the respondents, while section B is made up of the research question.  In all 20 items made up the content of the research instrument. The research instrument was validated by the supervisor at face and content level.

3.6       Method of Data Collection

In order to retrieve the instrument used for collecting the data needed for this research work, the researcher paid personal visit to Nigeria Brewery Plc, Apapa, Lagos, to collect the data.

3.7       Reliability and Validity of the Instrument

The test re-test reliability study was adopted to establish the reliability of the instrument.  The instrument was administered twice within the interval of two-three weeks and the two set of data collected was correlated using Pearson Product Moment Correlation which was aimed at establishing reliability coefficient.

To ensure its face validity, the research instrument was scrutinized and judged by the supervisor for appropriateness of each item of the instrument. The comment of the supervisor was used to obtain final items which were further subjected to content validity to ensure that the content of the instruments was representative of the area which the instruments are intended to cover.

3.8       Data Analysis

Consequent to collecting and sorting appropriately valid questionnaires, the data collected were analyzed using the simple percentage. The reasons for the use of the simple percentage is to present and interpret the responses from respondents while hypotheses were tested using the Chi-square. The reasons for the use of the Chi-Square is based  on the fact that it enables the researcher to compare observed and expected frequencies objectively, since it is not always possible to tell just by looking at them whether they are “different enough” to be considered statically significant.

3.9       Limitation of the Study

The first major difficulty encountered in the course of this study had to do with complaints from respondents over the bulky nature of the questionnaire vis-a-vis the short period required to fill it. Considering the fact that most worker are usually very busy people, sparing one hour or there about to fill the questionnaire was to them, a waste of valuable time.
