CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

• Background to the Study

1.6 Scope of the Study

The study examines the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit and their relationship with the Christian life. The study is based on facts from other scholars.

• Operational Definition of Terms

“Fruit of the Spirit” refers to the virtues that are produced in a person’s life as a result of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling. These are outlined in Galatians 5:22-23 and include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

“Gifts of the Holy Spirit” are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to Christians for the purpose of building up the body of Christ. These are listed in several places in the New Testament, including Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, and Ephesians 4:11-13. They include gifts such as prophecy, teaching, healing, and discernment.

“Relationship” in this context refers to the connection and interaction between two or more entities. In the context of this study, it refers to the interaction between the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Christian life.

“Christian life” refers to the lifestyle and behavior of a person who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior and follows His teachings. It is characterized by faith in Christ, love for others, and obedience to God’s commandments.

“Holy Spirit” is the third person of the Trinity in Christian theology, alongside God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. The Holy Spirit is believed to be active in the world today, guiding, empowering, and equipping believers.
