CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

• Background to the Study

Agricultural productivity in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been a subject of concern for many researchers and policymakers. 1.8  Operational Definition of Terms

1. Factors: These are elements or circumstances that contribute to a particular result or situation. In the context of this study, factors refer to the various elements that influence the productivity of agricultural produce.

2. Responsible: This term refers to being the primary cause of something, and thus able to be blamed or credited for it. In this context, when we say a factor is responsible for low productivity, it means that this factor is the cause or one of the main causes of the low productivity.
3. Low Productivity: This refers to a state where the output or the yield is less than expected or less than optimal. In agriculture, low productivity could mean that the amount of produce harvested is less than what could have been achieved under ideal conditions.
4. Agricultural Produce: This term refers to the products or output of agricultural activities. It includes a wide range of products like grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, etc., that are derived from farming and related activities.
