An Expository Essay on How to Prepare a Nigerian Dish – Okro Soup and Eba

Okro Soup and Eba are popular dishes in Nigeria, known for their rich flavor and nutritional value. Okro Soup, also known as Okra Soup, is made from Okra vegetables, palm oil, fish, meat, and a variety of spices. Eba, on the other hand, is a simple but filling dish made from garri (cassava flour) and hot water. These two dishes are often served together, making a complete, balanced meal.

To prepare Okro Soup, you’ll first need to gather your ingredients. You’ll need about 250g of Okra, 3 cooking spoons of palm oil, 1 medium-sized smoked fish, 1 medium-sized stockfish, 1 cup of shelled periwinkles, 1 cup of chopped pumpkin leaves (or spinach), 1 tablespoon of ground crayfish, 2 bouillon cubes, salt, and pepper to taste. Once you have all your ingredients, you can start the cooking process.

Start by washing the Okra and chopping it into small pieces. Then, in a pot, heat the palm oil over medium heat. Add the chopped Okra and stir for about 5 minutes. Once the water is boiling, pour it into a bowl. Gradually add the garri to the bowl while stirring continuously. Keep adding the garri and stirring until you get a smooth, firm dough. Once you’ve achieved this consistency, your Eba is ready.

To serve, mold the Eba into small balls or a flat round shape using a wet plastic wrap or bowl. Place the Eba on a plate and pour the Okro Soup over it. You can also serve the soup in a separate bowl if you prefer.
